Autoimmunity 101

Normally, cells of our immune system identify invaders (bacteria, viruses)  as foreign and attack them. Occasionally, our immune system goes awry and identify our own tissues as foreign and the mount an attack on them. This is a simple working definition and examples of autoimmune diseases include lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, and Sjogren’s Syndrome. More later!
